What is Invisalign?
Invisalign uses a series of virtually invisible, removable and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you’re wearing — so you’ll smile more during as well as after treatment. Invisalign aligners are made using 3-D computer imaging technology and the system has been proven effective.
Why would I use Invisalign vs. traditional braces?
The advantages of Invisalign compared with traditional braces include the following:
- The clear aligners are virtually invisible so no one even knows you’re wearing them
- Aligners are removable, which means you can eat and drink what you want during treatment, and you can continue brushing and flossing as usual
- The plastic aligners are comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment — no metal and wires means you spend less time in Dr. Harris’s office getting adjustments
- Invisalign allows you to view your own treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when you treatment is complete
How does Invisalign work?
You wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position that Dr. Harris prescribed. You’ll visit Dr. Harris about once every six weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 9 – 15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from one individual to another.
